About this project

I WAS ONE OF THOSE KIDS

Hi my name is Vinicius Tinoco aka Vina. I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and at the age of 12 started skateboarding. It was skateboarding and positive mentoring that kept me going straight in the middle of all the street violence, drugs use, poverty and hunger found in my impoverished neighborhood. As a young man, I worked teaching skateboarding for the Foundation for the Well Being of Minors in Sao Paulo known as Casa Foundation, an institution for kids under the age of 18 who has committed a crime. This opened my eyes to possibilities to help many more kids through my passion, skateboarding.

Now I live and work in the U.S. and see great need here as well. I believe every single child deserve a chance to learn that we all should be successful in our lives no matter where you were born, no matter your skin color or if you are rich or poor. I felt a need to help mentor kids here as I did in San Paulo. Towards this goal, I started a 501c3 called Next Up Foundation. Check out our site using the link on the right.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT NEXT UP FOUNDATION

“Next Up” is a grassroots foundation that was started by people who love skateboarding and who are dedicated to enhancing the lives of kids & teens.. Next Up Foundation provides after-school and summer mentoring programs that teach life skills through skateboarding. Programs are held at school sites and also in collaboration with Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs in the county.

Next Up foundation is all about people getting involved; from volunteering to mentoring the great kids we work with to make positive change in their lives. It’s all about giving back and being selfless. Here is a quote from a teen participant: “I never had a dream, I started skating and wanted to be a Pro, but now my dream is to be like Vina (founder of Next Up) and keep Next Up Foundation alive forever.”

MY ULTIMATE DREAM

To deliver a new program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley. $7,800 will be enough for our foundation to deliver a complete portable skate park, 20 complete skateboards and 20 helmets.

YOU AND I CAN DO THIS AND WE CAN BOTH GET REWARDED

Because of my connections with the some cool companies, I’m able to give you ‘rewards’ for your donations to our non-profit. The foundation is rewarded by your generosity and the ability to do more good in our community.

THIS IS A REAL WINWINWIN

- KIDS WIN…By getting more program time and all the benefits it provides.

- THE FOUNDATION WINS…by being able to expand its mission.

- YOU WIN – Some cool rewards and knowing you did something good.

THANK YOU FOR YOU KINDNESS AND CARING!!!!

Also…

A special THANK YOU to the Berrics for creating our great video!!!

Risks and Challenges

There is not doubt we will make great use of any donations that come in. We have many references that can be provided to those needing to feel safe about where there money will go. The $7800 represents a complete portable skate park in a cart, 20 complete skateboards plus 20 helmets. Check out our website to truly understand what we do. I think you’ll be impressed. Thank you again and don’t forget to select a great reward when you make your donation!
